Smith College Museum of Art – The Permanent Collection

Jim Gipe of Pivot Media and Stephen Petegorsky Photography reached a milestone in August of 2013 when they finished digitally archiving the last of the permanent collection at The Smith College Museum of Art. They started the project in 1999 when the museum hired Pivot Media to scan film that Stephen had been shooting for them. In 2004 Jim and Stephen combined forces, switched to a direct capture workflow, and began digitally photographing the artwork at the museum using a high end digital camera. In all they photographed roughly 25,000 art objects during the course of the project, creating nearly 52,000 digital files for the museum.
